SEAANZ Vice Presidents Mark Brennan and David Gregory (who is also CEO of Small Business Mentoring Service, Victoria), attended the UN event hosted by International Council for Small Business Forum on 12th May.

With over 400 attendees, the Forum focused on the need for “Creating a Shared Future for Entrepreneurs and MSMEs in the Framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

During the opening ceremony, ICSB Executive Director, Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, spoke about the history of ICSB and its mission to create a dedicated Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises Day at the United Nations. As noted by Winslow Sargeant, ICSB SVP of Partnerships:

“Small Business policy makers, Academic leaders, entrepreneurs, and small business owners heeded the global call from ICSB to gather today at the United Nations to support the need for guiding principles to help MSMEs. ICSB is pleased to work with partners that recognize that MSMEs are crucial in enabling the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

Mark presented a policy paper on the role of regulation and its’ enabling role for small business – drawing extensively on his own experiences as Victorian and then Australia’s first Small Business Commissioner.

The roles of ICSB Incoming President, Dr. Geralyn McClure and Executive Director, Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy, in making SEAANZ feel very welcome at this important event was very much appreciated.
